Bio
After graduating high school from the Interlochen Arts Academy high school where he studied jazz and classical guitar and then went on to complete his Bachelors of Music at the University of Miami in Florida where he studied jazz composition, improvisation, and arranging. In 1997 Matthew relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area and in that time has become one of the most sought after and prolific session guitarist in the area. In 2000 he began working with acclaimed funk drummer Zigaboo Modeliste of The Meters and continues to play in Zigaboo’s New Aahkesstra. In 2005-2007 Matthew toured the US and Europe with The Salvador Santana Band both opening for and jamming with Carlos Santana on stage. Taking a break from arena rock, Matthew then toured the US, Australia, and Europe in 2008-2009 with South African folk star Vusi Mahlasela. During this time Matthew met drummer/producer Narada Michael Walden (Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra) and has since co-written/released two studio albums (Rising Sun, Thunder) with the acclaimed drummer. As a band leader, “Room To Run” was released in 2009 which was called a “bold and unique” modern jazz recording by Guitar Player Magazine. Also in 2009 Matthew joined the psychedelic art rock band MoeTar and became a Magna Carta recording artist along with the band in 2011.
